The Modern Theater is a nonprofit theater company in the Inland Northwest, founded in 1961. It pursues high standards in production, education, and entertainment, and provides a professional environment for performers to refine their craft while offering training and education for children, teens, and adults. Based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, the organization operates under the The Modern Theater brand at two venues, The Modern Theater Spokane and The Modern Theater Coeur d'Alene. In 2014, Interplayers Professional Theatre’s assets were merged with Lake City Playhouse, and the surviving entity adopted The Modern Theater brand on November 3, 2014. The organization is governed by an eight-member Board of Directors and relies on a core staff of six full-time and five part-time employees, complemented by roughly 150 artistic contractors and more than 200 volunteers. Its subscriber base exceeds 1,300 patrons, the largest level since the 1980s.
