The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. is a New York City-based nonprofit in the performing arts that supports dance and choreography, promoting a broad spectrum of movement styles and the creation of new work. It operates The Joyce Theater, a venue built by dancers for dance, which serves as an intimate home for hundreds of domestic and international companies across an annual 48-week season and roughly 350 performances. The organization maintains a history of commissioning new works and providing residency opportunities to choreographers to develop new material. In 2009, The Joyce began operating Dance Art New York Studios, offering nine studios at affordable rates for rehearsals, auditions, classes, and workshops to choreographers and nonprofit dance groups. Its Dance Education Program engages New York City public school students and teachers, while Dance Talks and post-performance discussions help audiences connect more deeply with dance. In early 2024, the organization expanded its footprint by acquiring a former Boys’ Club in Manhattan’s East Village, reflecting ongoing capacity-building.
