The John W. Pope Center for Higher Education Policy is a Raleigh-based think tank focused on higher education policy. It seeks to improve higher education in North Carolina and nationwide by fostering a diversity of ideas, supporting the institutions that underlie economic prosperity, and improving teaching quality so graduates have strong literacy and foundational knowledge. The center advances its goals through transparency and accountability in administration and public policy, original research and commentary, and dialogue via events and online platforms. It communicates with parents, students, trustees, alumni, faculty, administrators, and policymakers to describe what is taught on campuses and how it could be improved. The center has operated as an independent nonprofit since 2003 and is named after John William Pope; in 2021 it expanded its collection by adding 50 new titles.
