The Iowa Institute for Cooperatives (IIC) is a nonprofit organization based in Ames, Iowa, dedicated to supporting Iowa’s cooperatives. Founded in 1951, it serves members across diverse sectors such as agriculture, credit unions, rural electric and rural telephone utilities, farm credit, and petroleum. The institute curates educational and training programs, provides timely news updates, and helps guide legislative actions to strengthen the cooperative system. It also aims to promote new cooperative development and value-added production, helping members manage change, identify threats, and pursue efficiencies. Its services include director and local member education, an annual meeting, special programs on current issues, and access to resources for long-range planning, benchmarking, and feasibility studies. In 2022, the institute partnered with the Iowa Credit Union League and the Iowa Association for Electric Cooperatives to support National Cooperative Month awareness efforts.
