The Tees Valley Combined Authority is a regional public body based in Darlington that guides economic development and regeneration across five boroughs in the Tees Valley. Established in 2016, it functions under the Tees Valley Mayor with support from the five local authorities and a Business Board to drive growth and job creation. Under a devolution agreement, it has assumed responsibilities formerly managed from London for transport, infrastructure, skills, business investment, culture and tourism, and it pursues forward-looking sectors such as carbon capture, hydrogen and offshore wind, while having secured Freeport status. The authority directs regeneration through Mayoral Development Corporations focused on Teesworks and on the town centres of Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, complemented by strategic transport plans. It engages with local authorities, businesses and communities to enable people to live and work in the region, and to attract investment and tourism. Recent activity includes participation in major projects like the East Coast Main Line station investment in partnership with BAM Construction and others, and it has been recognized with Silver status in the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme.
