Teen Line is a mental health care organization based in Los Angeles, California, that provides a confidential hotline for young people. The service is staffed by teen volunteers who are supervised by adult mental health professionals and receive extensive training, including crisis assessment and active listening. For about 40 years, the program has offered an anonymous, nonjudgmental space for youths to discuss their problems and access coping strategies, resources, and referrals. Each night from 6 to 10 p.m., volunteers answer calls, texts, and emails from peers seeking support, with a global audience reaching out to the hotline. In addition to the hotline, Teen Line conducts a Community Outreach Program that visits schools and youth groups to discuss topics relevant to teenagers. It also provides training and expertise to community organizations and local agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department’s Juvenile Procedure Training School since 1996, as well as others like LAUSD School Police, DARE, and the American Red Cross.
