Tech Exchange is a California-based nonprofit that refurbishes donated personal computers and distributes them to students and low-income residents who complete its training, with ongoing free technical support. By partnering with educators and community advocates, it aims to broaden Internet access and digital literacy across Oakland and the Bay Area, supporting self-sufficiency. It operates an environmentally sustainable reuse model to refurbish devices and responsibly recycle others, reflecting its mission to reduce waste. Since 1995, Tech Exchange has provided over 100,000 computers to students and families free of charge and more than 50,000 to Oakland Public School classrooms, nonprofits, and park and recreation centers, including 55,000 laptops to Oakland students during the COVID-19 pandemic; it has diverted over 3,000 tons of electronic waste from landfills. In 2025, the organization announced the launch of a Public Wifi Initiative in partnership with Mission Telecom to expand connectivity in the region.
