Tampere University of Technology (TUT) operated as a Finnish higher education institution focused on engineering sciences, existing from 1965 through 2018. Based in Tampere, Pirkanmaa, it functioned as a major center for engineering education and research in Finland. On 1 January 2019, TUT merged with the University of Tampere to form the new Tampere University. As part of the higher education sector, the organization served students, researchers, and industry partners seeking advanced engineering knowledge and collaboration opportunities. It was a mid-sized university by European standards, with a workforce in the hundreds, and it contributed to the regional innovation ecosystem in Tampere and the Pirkanmaa region. The merger formed Tampere University, bringing together the institutions that previously operated separately in Tampere.
