Sydney Theatre Company, established in 1978, is a major force in the Australian performing arts sector. It operates as the country’s largest theatre company by audience and annual output and serves as the state theatre company for New South Wales. The company presents an annual season of about 15 productions across four harbourside venues in Walsh Bay and is the resident theatre company of the Sydney Opera House. In late 2024 Mitchell Butel was appointed artistic director and co-CEO, following Kip Williams stepping down after the 2024 season.
