Statsbygg is Norway's government administration agency responsible for construction and property matters. It acts as the state's building commissioner, property manager, and property developer, operating under the Ministry of Digitalisation and Public Governance. Its mandate includes providing functional premises for public-sector organizations and pursuing sociopolitical objectives related to architecture, governmental planning, heritage preservation, and environmental stewardship. When handling new buildings, Statsbygg plans, quality-assures, budgets, and monitors construction as the government’s representative building commissioner, in addition to guiding purchasing and leasing of premises. Based in Oslo, Statsbygg is a public-sector organization with a workforce in the hundreds. Its activities support government planning and sustainability goals while balancing heritage conservation with functional needs. A recent development involves the Bygdøy peninsula project southwest of Oslo, designed by Danish architect AART.
