The State Financial Officers Foundation (SFOF) operates in the public policy arena with a focus on fiscally responsible public policy and educating the public about the role of finance in a free market economy. Based in Washington, DC, it maintains a small staff and brings together a selective group of state financial officers with private sector participants and academics to advocate a conservative, pro-growth, small-government approach to state finance. SFOF organizes educational forums and communication efforts to exchange solutions and form partnerships among state officials, the private sector, academia, and government, while informing the public about how state financial officers contribute to state governance. Membership is selective, with public sector participation not intended to represent all state financial officers, and private sector leadership limited to 50 participants and organizations. A notable recent development is the October 2025 launch of Look To The States, a 501(c)4, and the organization has previously partnered with Heritage.
