Stairstep Foundation is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit organization focused on addressing violence, trauma, and systemic barriers affecting African American communities. Established in 1992, the foundation pursues a multi-pronged approach that includes direct intervention with youth at risk of violence, expanding access to GED and adult diploma opportunities, increasing job opportunities for young African Americans, and improving access to grief, trauma, and mental health services. Through collaboration with faith networks and community partners, the organization aims to strengthen community connections and economic opportunity while addressing the root causes of instability. Operating within the field of individual and family services, Stairstep partners with local organizations to implement its programs and reach affected populations in the Minneapolis area. The organization emphasizes accountability, education, community, and mental health as core values guiding its work, and it participates in community dialogues and forums to elevate awareness and engagement on issues impacting Black communities in the region.
