Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH) is a sub-unified command within U.S. Southern Command responsible for planning and executing special operations across Central and South America and the Caribbean. Based at Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida, it collaborates with partner nations to respond to crises, enhance warfighter readiness, and promote regional stability through a posture of peace through strength. Its area of responsibility covers 31 countries and 12 dependencies and areas of special sovereignty, home to more than 522 million people. SOCSOUTH is staffed by more than 400 personnel, including military members, civilian employees, and contractors, who fulfill three core imperatives: plan and execute campaign plans, command and control deployed special operations forces, and respond to crises. As the focal point for SOF operations in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility, it relies on units designated by the Secretary of War to carry out missions beyond conventional military capabilities.
