The South Dakota Art Museum is in Brookings, South Dakota, on the campus of South Dakota State University. Founded in 1970, it showcases South Dakota's artistic legacy alongside international works and is open daily with free admission. Its collection exceeds 7,000 objects, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, textiles and ceramics, with notable holdings by Harvey Dunn, Paul Goble, and Oscar Howe. Seven galleries host rotating exhibitions, presenting more than a dozen new shows each year drawn from the collection as well as traveling and international works. The Museum Store offers jewelry, pottery and original works by local and regional artists, in addition to books on South Dakota history and culture. The museum has accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, reflecting adherence to professional standards in education, public service and collections care.
