South Central Planning and Development Commission is a regional planning and development agency based in Houma, Louisiana, serving St Charles, St John, St James, Assumption, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. Mary and seven municipalities in the region. It carries out long-range planning, coordinates state and federal grants for public works, and provides professional support to the governing bodies of its member parishes. It also oversees transportation planning through the Houma-Thibodaux Metropolitan Planning Organization and offers loans and other services to local businesses and residents, including disaster-response activities. Within the government relations services field, SCPDC functions as a regional hub for planning and development across its service area. A notable development in its recent activity is a 2019 collaboration with the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program and related agencies to survey home sewage systems.
