The Society for Humanistic Judaism serves as the congregational arm of the Secular Humanistic Judaism movement in North America. It offers ways for people who identify as cultural, secular, humanistic, atheist or agnostic, spiritual but not religious, or simply Jewish to celebrate holidays and lifecycle moments without invoking God or the supernatural. Its affiliated congregations, communities, and informal study circles—havurot—provide an inclusive environment that welcomes families, singles, couples, multi-generational groups, and members of LGBTQ communities. The organization is based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and operates within the civic and social organizations sector, coordinating a network across North America. In 2025, SHJ announced the addition of a new staff member, Johanna, who came from Cannes, France and has adopted the Hebrew name Yohanna.
