Small Sums is an organization in the individual and family services sector based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Its mission centers on assisting homeless individuals who have secured employment by providing practical start-up items and services needed to begin work, such as work attire, tools, licenses, transportation, and related supports to ensure reliable access to their first paychecks. The target population comprises homeless job seekers who have found jobs, with the goal of removing obstacles that may prevent them from maintaining employment. The organization operates with a very small staff footprint and appears to focus on timely, targeted assistance that complements other social services. A notable recent development is a grant from the F. R. Bigelow Foundation intended to support Small Sums’ work helping East Metro homeless individuals start back to work, aligning with its local service focus in the St. Paul area.
