SISO is an international association for for-profit entities that own, produce, or provide full-service management of face-to-face events—such as trade shows, consumer shows, expositions, and conferences—as a substantial part of their business. It was established in 1990 when twelve independent show organizers met to discuss industry trends and the differences between for-profit and non-profit issues, creating a forum for regular networking and candid learning in a non-competitive environment. Its membership includes both large global corporations and smaller entrepreneurial firms from around the world, comprising around 200 member companies that collectively produce thousands of events and contribute to the global economy. Positioned in the events services industry, SISO functions as a professional network and knowledge hub for show organizers, emphasizing peer networking, education, and best practices to streamline industry processes. Based in New York, New York, it operates as a small-to-mid-sized organization and has pursued external partnerships, including a March 2026 collaboration with Marketingdesigngroup to host an invite-only executive roundtable in conjunction with Lippman Connects' Exhibition and Convention Executives Forum (ECEF) and SISO.
