Silvis Materials, based in Boulder, Colorado, develops bio-based adhesives intended to replace formaldehyde-containing formulations. Its patent-pending cellulose-based formulations are designed to integrate with existing manufacturing equipment, avoiding the need for process changes. The products are positioned as cost-competitive with petroleum-based adhesives while offering reduced regulatory risk and improved end-of-life recyclability. The company was founded in 2020 by plastics engineer Patty Ferreira and is headquartered at the University of Colorado Boulder. In January 2025, Silvis Materials announced a collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to advance formaldehyde-free, bio-based adhesives for building materials.
