Shop Made in DC is a Washington, DC-based retail initiative focused on products produced in the district, with the goal of growing the local maker community. The organization operates three stores in Union Market, Georgetown, and the Wharf, where more than 200 makers are represented and an inventory approaching 5,000 items spans categories such as apothecary, apparel, art, furniture, jewelry, home decor, and stationery. It functions as a platform for DC-based designers and artisans to showcase their work, and aims to foster collaboration among ideas, products, and people while driving foot traffic to nearby neighborhoods. The venture seeks to lower barriers to market entry for DC-based makers and small retailers. Founded in 2017 by Stacey Price and Michael Babin with support from local institutions, Shop Made in DC positions itself within the retail sector as the first store dedicated exclusively to Made in DC products. Based in Washington, the initiative has grown to three dedicated storefronts and engages in partnerships to extend reach, such as a 2022 collaboration with Bell's Reines to bring its cookies into DC via Shop Made in DC.
