Secure Fisheries is a program of the One Earth Future Foundation. The core objectives of Secure Fisheries are to foster effective governance of fisheries, promote food and economic security through fisheries, and facilitate regional coordination to combat illegal fishing. We aim to achieve these goals in three key areas: Fisheries in Somalia are sustainably managed: Secure Fisheries provides expert scientific data and analysis that create a foundation for building opportunities for Somali fisheries. Fisheries development in East Africa is profitable, sustainable, and equitable: Secure Fisheries conducts primary research on the trade-offs between harvesting wild fish and aquaculture, and how those lessons can be applied to improve the Somali fisheries value chain. Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the Indian Ocean is reduced: Secure Fisheries draws attention to the problem of IUU fishing and convenes regional stakeholders to ensure policies against IUU fishing are established and enforced. Secure Fisheries strives to achieve these goals by building expertise, conducting empirical research, promoting sustainable solutions, and engaging multi-stakeholder approaches to governance in order to secure a profitable and sustainable future for Somali fisheries.
