Based in Utica, New York, Sculpture Space is a small nonprofit that supports sculptors through residency programming. Each year it selects twenty artists for two-month stays, inviting national and international participants to Utica and providing a structured period for developing new work. The organization emphasizes ongoing support for artists after their residencies, helping many pursue active careers beyond the program. Since its inception in 1976, Sculpture Space has assisted more than 500 artists in advancing their practice, and it also offers opportunities for the public to engage with contemporary sculpture and meet the creators behind it. Operating within the visual arts sector with a focus on sculpture, the organization centers its model on supporting artists during residency and in the years that follow. In 2022, Sculpture Space launched a Vandalism Recovery Fund to cover costs associated with vandalism, reflecting its ongoing programmatic initiatives.
