SCAN of Northern Virginia is a regional nonprofit focused on preventing child abuse and neglect. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, it has spent about three decades developing prevention programming for all children and families, regardless of their circumstances. Its vision is a community in which every child can grow up in a safe, stable, nurturing family with access to supports that help them thrive and contribute to the broader community. 

Its work relies on collaboration with donors, partners, and volunteers to advance child well-being by educating the public about the scope and consequences of abuse, promoting positive parenting, providing direct parent education, and advocating for children in local forums as well as the legislature and courts. In 2021, SCAN expanded its preventive efforts with the launch of an Institutional Abuse Prevention program, following earlier public education initiatives.
