Our work centres on three mutually reinforcing pillars: training, crisis assistance and therapy. By empowering freelance journalists with the knowledge, resources and resilience they need to stay safe, assistance when things go wrong and the mental health support to help them resume their careers, gathering the facts we all rely on to make decisions about our future, the Rory Peck Trust is helping build informed and engaged societies around the world. Journalists are the world’s eyes and ears on the ground as conflicts unfold around the world. Their daily work keeps us informed with facts that shed light on the human condition and plays a key role in exposing abuses and corruption, a critical task in developing countries where challenges exist around health, education, poverty, equity, equality, and other issues. But our work is not just about defending the rights of journalists. It is also about ensuring that information—a shared global resource necessary to ensure accountability and deliver economic growth—is available to all people everywhere, particularly those disadvantaged by censorship, violence, and repression. When a country’s journalists are silenced, its people are silenced. By protecting journalists, Rory Peck protects freedom of expression and democracy.
