The Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies functions as San Francisco State University's marine and estuarine field station. It sits on 36 waterfront acres on the Tiburon Peninsula in Marin County and is the only academic research and teaching facility located on the shores of San Francisco Bay. The center brings together SF State faculty and scientists across 13 laboratories to conduct environmental research in the Bay Area and beyond, from Alaska to the Amazon to Antarctica, while educating the next generation of scientists. Graduate students can earn a Master of Science in Marine Science through SF State's Biology Department, with ongoing support from research technicians and facilities staff. The center also operates the Bay Conference Center for rental to educational and nonprofit groups and maintains an active outreach program that culminates in the annual Discovery Day Open House in April.
