The Rivanna Conservation Alliance is a Charlottesville-based nonprofit formed in 2016 through the merger of the Rivanna Conservation Society and StreamWatch. It pursues protection of the Rivanna River and its watershed through water quality monitoring, restoration projects, education, and stewardship activities. The organization works with the local community to advance these objectives and relies on volunteer involvement to carry them out. The Rivanna River, a 42.1-mile-long tributary of the James River in central Virginia, is the central focus of RCA’s work. In 2025, the alliance organized the Rivanna River Round Up cleanup event and opened volunteer registrations for its sixth edition. RCA operates within the broader nonprofit sector focused on watershed conservation and water quality monitoring, aiming to maintain and improve the health of local waterways.
