Retreat Farm is a small nonprofit based in Brattleboro, in southern Vermont, that manages a historic property spanning more than 500 acres of conserved forests, farmlands, trails, and waterways. Founded at this location in 1837 to provide food, fuel, and occupational therapy to patients and staff of the Brattleboro Retreat psychiatric hospital, the site was reestablished as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2015 to restore the forests, soils, waters, and farmstead as a community asset. Today, Retreat Farm provides access to fresh food, opportunities to connect with nature, and community for thousands of visitors, contributing to the region's vibrancy by bringing people together around shared land and landscape.
