Operating since 1975, Rainbow Grocery Cooperative has grown to be the Bay Area destination for the highest quality organic packaged and bulk foods, with a wide selection of organic locally-grown produce, a large selection of gourmet local and imported cheeses, organic and cruelty-free health and beauty aids, and by far the most extensive vitamin and supplement selection in the Bay Area. We are worker-owned, collectively run, and democratically managed. Employees become members after meeting a series of requirements and the purchase of a minimum number of shares. Although our motto is Food for People, not for Profit, we are a for-profit company. Still, the profits are re-distributed 100% to the membership in the form of shares. We donate significantly to the community and to organizations that are often unrecognized by the usual corporate donors.
