Public Investment Fund (PIF) is Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, building a global investment portfolio across domestic and international markets and aiming to become the world's largest fund in its category. Its origins date to 1971, when it was established to invest in commercial projects and advance non-oil sector development through strategic investments. In 2015 oversight was shifted to the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, and a new Board of Directors was appointed, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The fund's portfolio is diversified, with a sizable portion of holdings listed on Tadawul, and it pursues a risk-adjusted mix across sectors, geographies and asset classes to achieve long-term returns. Its broader objective is to enable new sectors and opportunities that shape the global economy while driving Saudi Arabia's economic transformation. In 2026, PIF expanded its presence with a new office in Shanghai to strengthen dealmaking and investment links with China.
