Project Row Houses is a Houston-based nonprofit in the civic and social sector dedicated to empowering people and enriching communities through art, engagement, and direct action. It emerged as a thought experiment conceived by seven longtime artists active in the Third Ward, with a mission to catalyze community transformation through the celebration of art and African American history and culture. The organization encompasses a substantial presence in Historic Third Ward, occupying five city blocks and 39 structures that host a range of community initiatives, art programs, and neighborhood development activities. It partners with neighbors, artists, and local enterprises to create sustainable opportunities in marginalized communities through collaborative creative action. A recent development includes a collaboration with Houston Mod Group to present a walking tour of the Eldorado Ballroom in the Third Ward, illustrating its ongoing engagement with place-based cultural programming.
