PRI is a nonprofit organization that administers accreditation programs, including Nadcap for aerospace and defense. It also provides international third-party certifications through PRI Certification, such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and ISO 14001. It is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with regional offices in London to serve Europe and in Beijing and Aichi to support the Asia-Pacific region.

The Nadcap model has been extended to other sectors, notably MedAccred for medical device manufacturing and Performance360 for transportation and power generation. PRI also runs training and qualification programs to support critical processes and personnel competency. In March 2025, PRI joined the FDA's Voluntary Improvement Program, a collaboration designed to help medical device companies accelerate product delivery while maintaining safety and quality.
