The InterHospital Physicians Association, known as Portland IPA, is a for-profit corporation incorporated in Oregon and one of the region's oldest independent practice associations, with a foundation dating back to 1983. It connects more than 3,500 independent and system-employed primary and specialty care providers in the Portland metropolitan area. It provides information delivery and value-based agreements to member clinics and holds contracts for Commercial, Medicare, and OHP, while coordinating with contracted health plans on quality metrics and related initiatives. Its work supports clinics directly by giving information, education, and process support, and collaborates with insurers to help clinics implement workflows aligned with performance metrics. The organization is based in Portland, Oregon, and operates within the Hospitals and Health Care industry as an independent practice association. In 2019, Portland IPA partnered with ophthalmology practices Oregon Eye Specialists, P.C., and EyeHealth Northwest to pilot the use of a handheld retinal camera in primary care settings.
