PMHCC, Inc. is a mid-sized nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, focused on public behavioral health and related human services. Its origins reach back to 1987, when a predecessor organization was formed to implement a major grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Program for Chronic Mental Illness. The grant supported the City of Philadelphia's vision of a unified mental health system that included affordable housing, effective case management, and a broad range of psychosocial and vocational programs for people with mental illness, with the aim of consolidating funding within a managed behavioral healthcare model. Over time, PMHCC broadened its activities to become a major human services systems management entity supporting several City departments while maintaining its core focus on public behavioral health programs. Today, it serves as an umbrella organization for special programs and initiatives and provides administrative services to mental health, substance abuse, intellectual disabilities, human services, and related city offices and health programs.
