The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) is the national non-profit body representing the planning profession in Australia. It serves approximately 4,800 members nationally and internationally and connects with about 7,500 planners each year through education, communication and professional development. The organization is member-based, governed by a National Board and run by a professional administration, with volunteers contributing at multiple levels, and it is based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. PIA's activities aim to advocate for better planning, build the capacity of planners, and support the profession across careers to help create better communities. In March 2025, PIA launched a professional development platform to broaden learning opportunities for its members and the wider planning community.
