The Philadelphia Public School Notebook is an independent, nonprofit news organization focused on Philadelphia’s public schools. It serves as an information source and voice for parents, students, teachers, and other community members pursuing quality and equity in the district. Founded in 1994 by a group of concerned parents, teachers, and community members, it continues as an independent journalistic enterprise supported by foundation and donor resources. Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Notebook publishes six free print editions annually and distributes about 55,000 copies to every Philadelphia public school and Free Library branch, as well as charter schools and more than 250 community organizations. Its website attracts about 40,000 unique visitors each month, and its content is shared via social channels and partnerships with other news sites. In 2020, it joined forces with Chalkbeat to launch Chalkbeat Philadelphia, expanding its reach within nonprofit journalism.
