Pathways to Independence is a mid-sized nonprofit based in St. Louis, Missouri, that supports adults with learning disabilities and related disorders who have few other options for group social development. Its program concentrates on teaching interpersonal skills and applying them through community-based events and activities designed to help participants form meaningful relationships and achieve success in personal and work settings. The approach emphasizes developing socialization and community integration skills that can be difficult for individuals with severe learning challenges. Pathways to Independence runs 25-35 small-group events each month across the community, providing individualized training to help participants build and maintain peer relationships, navigate boundaries, and improve communication. The organization was founded in 1987 as a committee of the Learning Disabilities Association of St. Louis and became an independent 501(c)(3) in 1989. In 2020, PTI expanded its offerings with a young adult program for individuals aged 16 to 21.
