Panda Energy, based in the United States, is a mid-sized company in the oil and gas sector that develops, builds, and operates large-scale energy facilities domestically and internationally. Since its founding in 1982, it has constructed and operated major projects, including the two largest gas-fired merchant electric generation facilities in the United States, with a combined capacity of 4,400 megawatts. The company has also pursued international projects such as a run-of-the-river hydroelectric project in Nepal and has built more than 9,000 megawatts of generating capacity to date. In 2005, Newsweek recognized Panda Energy as one of the ten most eco-friendly energy companies in the United States for its biomass-fueled ethanol refinery with a notably low carbon footprint. Today, Panda Energy continues to explore value creation opportunities across both conventional and renewable energy projects around the world.
