Osocalis Distillery is a small, artisanal producer located in Soquel, in the Santa Cruz area of California. It operates with a traditional antique Charentais alambic still imported from Cognac to distill brandies from grapes and apples sourced from California's cooler coastal regions. The aim is to achieve the refinement associated with traditional European brandies while preserving the fruit-driven character typical of California wines. Founded in the early 1990s, Osocalis represents the second generation of American craft distillers who blend Old World techniques with New World fruit. Its brandy is based primarily on Colombard and Pinot Noir, though it distills a broad range of wines such as Marsanne, Riesling, Syrah, Grenache, and Semillon; blending across fruit sources contributes to a distinctive California brandy style. Aging is prioritized to develop complex aromas and flavors, reflecting a patient approach and a commitment to high-quality fruit.
