Openbox is a design and research studio based in Brooklyn, New York, working at the intersection of people, cities, and the environment. The firm emphasizes a balanced and equitable approach that gives communities a voice in shaping projects and sharing in their outcomes. By integrating input from residents, cities, designers, and businesses, Openbox supports the development of urban systems that are sustainable, resilient, and capable of withstanding crises.

The studio's process starts with inclusive stakeholder engagement and uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to draw on hyperlocal expertise. It prototypes and refines these insights into community-driven design solutions, often in collaboration with partners in architecture, planning, and design. A recent development includes a partnership with the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition to conduct site visits led by Openbox.
