Oceana is a non-profit international advocacy organization dedicated to ocean conservation, based in the United States. It pursues science-based policy changes in governments that control about a quarter of the world's wild fish catch, and it reports more than 275 victories to date. These campaigns address overfishing, habitat destruction, oil and plastic pollution, and threats to marine species such as turtles, whales, and sharks. Oceana describes its mission as restoring oceans so that roughly one billion people can rely on a healthy seafood supply every day, indefinitely. As a mid-sized nonprofit with international reach, it works with policymakers and other stakeholders to translate scientific findings into durable conservation policies.
