Launched in 1993 as a fan site for authorized live music trading, nugs turned professional in 2002 when Phish teamed up with Brad Serling to officially release downloads of every concert they played. Soon Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tim McGraw, Grateful Dead, and 1000 other artists tapped nugs to distribute their live concert recordings. Most recently Pearl Jam shifted their long-standing Bootlegs program to nugs for CD and download fulfillment. nugs' pay-per-view concert webcast business has exploded over the past few years, as bands like Phish broadcast up to a third of their shows each year.
