Northwest Bank’s five founders—Theodore Ingrassia, William Earnest, William McKeever, John Graves and Louis Gilbert—opened Northwest Bank’s first location at 3106 North Rockton Avenue, Rockford, Illinois in 1972. Their mission was to assist the economic growth of the Rockford area by providing community banking services that benefit the financial development and social prosperity of its customers. In 1989, the bank became a member of the Foresight Financial Group. 

Northwest Bank soon expanded by opening its second location in Loves Park, which later moved to 5305 North Second Street in October of 2010. Northwest Bank subsequently opened its third location on Rockford’s east side at 125 Phelps Avenue and opened its fourth location in Machesney Park at 1100 Ralston Road in 2005. Furthermore, with a formed partnership with Vision Mortgage, Northwest Bank opened its fifth location designated to mortgage services at 6724 Commonwealth Drive, Loves Park in the fall of 2012.

In October 2018, Northwest Bank expanded its services and opened a newly-built fifth branch location in Loves Park. The 12,000 square-foot facility at 4402 Peak Drive houses a full-service retail banking space with two drive-up lanes and an ATM. The full-service mortgage banking operations also moved from the Commonwealth Drive location to this new location.
