The Northern Nevada Literacy Council is a small nonprofit based in Reno, northern Nevada, founded in 1978 and incorporated in 1983. It provides free educational programs for adult learners, including opportunities to earn the High School Equivalency certificate, improve English language skills, obtain citizenship, and participate in a Family Reading Program. These services operate within the e-learning landscape to support adults seeking to advance their education and family literacy. The organization serves residents of northern Nevada with accessible instruction aimed at advancing educational outcomes. In the most recent year on record, 145 NNLC students earned their HSE certificates. Its outcomes in entering and retaining employment and in transitioning to postsecondary education or training exceed state benchmarks. In 2021, NNLC formed a partnership with Truckee Meadows Community College to offer education and workforce development opportunities for youths facing barriers to literacy.
