North Country School & Camp Treetops comprises a school and a summer camp, rooted in progressive practices and experiential learning. The school serves students in grades 4-9 and has operated since 1921, while Camp Treetops has offered summer programs since 1938, on a 333-acre campus near Lake Placid in Adirondack Park. The programs encourage students to engage with the natural world, confront intellectual and physical challenges in a supportive community, and foster independence and creativity, with Camp Treetops providing a simple, unhurried, child-centered environment for ages 8-14. Based in Lake Placid, New York, the organization maintains a mid-sized staff and runs year-round activities across its school and camp offerings. In March 2024, Ashley Waldorf was appointed Director of School, marking a recent leadership development. The combination of long-standing programs rooted in progressive, experiential learning and engagement with the Adirondack environment defines the organization's position within the primary and secondary education space.
