North Alamo Water Supply Corporation is a Texas-chartered utility that provides potable water and wastewater services to rural residents of eastern Hidalgo County, Willacy County, and northwestern Cameron County. Its service area spans 973 square miles, as defined by Certificates of Convenience and Necessity Nos. 10553 and 20645, and surrounds or adjoins 16 communities that operate public water systems. The system serves more than 44,900 meter connections, including households, businesses, 24 schools, and six other public water systems, drawn from six surface water treatment plants and one reverse osmosis plant, serving an estimated population of about 180,000. Water supply combines surface water treated at six plants with brackish groundwater treated by an RO facility, while about 2,000 meter connections are also served by the corporation’s wastewater system. Governance rests with a nine-member Board of Directors elected by members, responsible for establishing operating policies, rates, tariffs and regulations, and the organization is based in Edinburg, Texas.
