New York Stage & Film is a not-for-profit organization that supports the development and production of theater and film for both emerging and established artists. It emphasizes community building, process support, and the amplification of original artistic voices. Founded in 1985 and based in New York, it serves the Hudson Valley and the New York metropolitan area as a cultural incubator within the entertainment sector. The organization has earned recognition as a major incubator, with The New York Times describing it as a formidable breeding ground for new work and many projects tracing their development to S&F. Works associated with its development include Tony-winning productions such as Hamilton and Hadestown, Broadway titles like American Idiot and Bright Star, and Pulitzer winners and finalists such as Doubt, The Wolves, and Taylor Mac’s A 24-Decade History of Popular Music. In 2022, it resumed in-person programming for its Summer Season in Poughkeepsie, signaling renewed on-site activity.
