NYIA is a trade association for the property and casualty insurance sector in New York, providing a unified voice for insurers. Its roots go back to 1882, and the current organization formed in 1997 from the merger of the New York Insurance Alliance and the New York State Insurance Association. Based in Albany, New York, NYIA brings together national and regional carriers—domestic and non-domestic—that write premiums across virtually every county of the state, representing stock, mutual, and cooperative insurers. The association serves as a representative body on policy and industry issues in New York. Collectively, its member companies write more than $13 billion in New York premiums, highlighting the scale of its insurance activity in the state. In February 2026, NYIA announced the launch of TGFI Renters Resources, a recent initiative expanding its resources for renters and related stakeholders.
