NTUA provides electricity, water, natural gas, wastewater treatment, and solar power services to homes and businesses across the Navajo Nation and nearby communities. It buys electrical power from outside the Navajo Nation and delivers it to residential and commercial customers in northern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, and southeastern Utah. The service area spans roughly 26,000 square miles. Despite these efforts, an estimated 18,000 families lack access to electricity, and many more lack basic infrastructure such as water, wastewater facilities, and natural gas services.

Based in Fort Defiance, Arizona, NTUA operates as a nonprofit utility enterprise and, in 2026, contracted NewGen Strategies and Solutions to study its water and wastewater rates.
