National Refinery Limited is an oil and gas company based in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It operates a refinery complex that includes two lubricating-base-oil facilities, a fuel refinery, and a BTX unit. The company is the only refinery in Pakistan that produces lubricating base oils. Founded in 1963 as a public limited company, NRL subsequently came under government administration before being privatized in 2005, with control transferred to the Attock Oil Group. NRL's refiners began with the first lubricating-base-oil unit in 1966, designed for crude processing and base oil production, followed by a second lubricating-base-oil unit in 1985. The fuel refinery started in 1977, and after a revamp its designed crude-processing capacity rose to 2,170,800 tonnes per annum; a BTX unit was commissioned in 1985 with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year.
