The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization in the government administration field that serves the legislators and staff of the nation’s 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. It provides research, technical assistance, and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on pressing state issues. It also advocates for the interests of state governments before Congress and federal agencies, functioning as a neutral intermediary between state and federal government.
Based in Denver, Colorado, the organization is mid-sized and supports state governance through policy analysis and collaborative exchange. In October 2025, NCSL brought together chairs from education, labor, workforce and commerce committees for its eighth Jobs Summit, highlighting its role as a forum for state lawmakers and staff.
